Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives in the fire incident at a paint factory in Alipur here. 11 people have died in this fire. The Chief Minister also visited the spot to take stock of the situation after the fire that broke out on Thursday evening. A delegation led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva on Friday met the people affected in the incident and announced financial assistance for them. Kejriwal told reporters, “We have full sympathy towards the families of the deceased. We will give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Two people sustained minor burn injuries and will be given a compensation of Rs 20,000 each. Apart from this, those who have suffered serious burn injuries will be given a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each.
The dead of the fire will get compensation
He said that the nearby shops and houses which were damaged due to the fire will also be compensated as per the government policy. The Chief Minister said, “We will completely assess the damage caused to the burnt shops and houses. I have just informed the District Magistrate and the damage caused will be compensated as per the government’s policy.” The Chief Minister said that there are allegations that there was a delay in the fire tenders reaching the spot. He said, “I will order an investigation and whoever is guilty will not be spared.” How was this factory running in a residential area? This will also be investigated. Action will be taken in this soon.” BJP’s state unit said in a statement that Sachdeva has announced an assistance of Rs 50-50 thousand for the last rites of the dead and Rs 25-25 thousand for the treatment of the injured.
Delhi BJP demanded
The BJP President in Delhi has demanded that the Kejriwal government should give compensation of Rs 25-25 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 10-10 lakh to the injured. Sachdeva alleged that the reason behind the fire was corruption in the factory licensing department and the AAP-ruled Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Eleven people were killed in an explosion and subsequent fire at a paint factory in Alipur area of outer Delhi. Officials said that four people were injured in the fire that broke out on Thursday evening, and have been admitted to the hospital.
