Rajya Sabha Election: An interesting contest can be seen in the Rajya Sabha elections 2024. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made the contest difficult for the opposition by fielding more candidates in many states. This time BJP has fielded one candidate each for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh.
The opposition is shocked by this strategy of the party. The competition in the states has become interesting due to fielding of extra candidates. Due to this move of BJP, one seat of SP in UP and the seat of Abhishek Manu Singhvi of Congress in Himachal may get trapped.
Fear of cross voting in opposition
Congress has complete numerical strength in Himachal Pradesh. In the 68-member assembly, Congress has 40 MLAs and BJP has 25 MLAs. Congress needs 34 MLAs to win here but due to dissatisfaction in the party, cross voting may take place here.
Interesting contest in UP
There are 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. On these, BJP seems to be getting 7 seats and SP is getting three seats, but a rebellion started in the Samajwadi Party regarding the third candidate and to take advantage of this opportunity, BJP has fielded Sanjay Seth as the eighth candidate from here, due to which UP The competition has become interesting.
Danger of cross voting in Karnataka and Maharashtra also
Along with Himachal, Congress is facing the fear of cross voting in Karnataka and Maharashtra. Voting is to be held on 4 assembly seats of Karnataka. There, it is considered certain that Congress will win three seats and BJP-JDS alliance will win one seat.
Congress has fielded Ajay Maken, Anil Kumar Yadav and Nasir Hussain as candidates from Karnataka. At the same time, JDS has fielded former Rajya Sabha member D Kupendra Reddy, while BJP has fielded Narayansa Bangde as the fifth candidate, due to which alarm bells seem to be ringing for Congress.
On the other hand, in Maharashtra too, there is a fear of Congress losing its only seat. If cross voting takes place in the party, its only candidate Chandrakant Handore may get trapped.
