Only iron cuts iron. The Election Commission of India is going to implement this adage in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Commission is going to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to track social media in the electoral battle on the lines of political parties. The Commission will use AI as a weapon to cut down misleading, incorrect and fake information, while during this time all the political parties of the country will be trying to attract voters.
Many political dignitaries of the country, including international social media company Meta, are expressing concern about the misuse of AI in the Lok Sabha elections-2024. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar have expressed concern over the release of deepfake videos of many well-known personalities.
It has even been said that this could pose a threat to democracy. In such a situation, steps are being taken unilaterally by the government to cut down misinformation. At the same time, the Election Commission is also gearing up to track social media platforms.
