A statement from the department in Helmand said the accident occurred Sunday morning in the Gerashk district of Helmand province on the main highway between southern Kandahar and western Herat provinces. Kadratullah, a traffic official in Helmand, said a motorcyclist collided with a passenger bus along with his vehicle. The bus then collided with a fuel tanker on the opposite side of the road.

The traffic officer said the accident is under investigation. Ezzatullah Haqqani, spokesman for the Helmand police chief, said 11 of the 38 injured were admitted to hospitals with serious injuries. The condition of all these 11 people is critical. Due to poor condition of roads and carelessness of drivers, cases of road accidents are frequent in Afghanistan.
