IPL 2024: Even after losing the thrilling match against Rajasthan, Shreyas Iyer’s troubles did not reduce. After losing on the last ball, the Kolkata captain has been fined. This fine has been imposed on him for slow over rate in the match.
Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh. KKR lost to Royals by two wickets on Tuesday in which Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 107 off 60 balls.
IPL said in a release, “This was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s code of conduct related to minimum over rate, so Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh.” This was the Royals’ sixth win in seven matches while KKR suffered their second defeat in six matches.
Talking about the match, KKR, batting first, scored 223 runs for the loss of 6 wickets on the basis of Sunil Narine’s brilliant century. Narine scored 109 runs in 56 balls. This was the first century of his IPL career while it was the third century from KKR’s side. Chasing the target, Rajasthan not only won by 2 wickets but also made the record of the most successful run chase.
After not being able to defend 223 runs, captain Iyer defended his team and said that they should learn from their mistakes. Iyer said, ‘It is difficult to explain what happened, we have to face it and move on. I am happy that it happened here. The important thing is that we learn from our mistakes and come back stronger.’ The Knight Riders had given the responsibility of defending nine runs in the last over to spinner Varun Chakraborty but he failed to do so. Iyer defended the decision to make him bowl the last over. He said, ‘Butler was hitting shots easily so I thought let’s reduce the speed of the ball and give it to Varun Chakraborty. But he successfully played a big shot.’
