Nuclear Weapons: America accuses Russia of developing anti-satellite nuclear weapons in space, voting in UN today

Nuclear Weapons in Space: America and Russia are going to face each other in the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday (April 24) on the issue of nuclear weapons in space. America has prepared a draft proposal to stop weapons in space, on which voting is to be held today. Some diplomats have speculated that Russia may stop this draft.

Actually, America has accused Russia that Russia is making space based weapons. America considers this campaign of Russia as dangerous for the world and itself. America has now raised this issue in the United Nations Security Council. America says that Russia is developing anti-satellite nuclear weapons to deploy in space. On the other hand, Russia’s Defense Minister has completely rejected these allegations of America.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Japan’s UN Ambassador Yamazaki Kazuyuki gave a joint statement on Friday. During this, he said that he has been in talks with the members of the Security Council regarding this draft for the last six weeks. America says that such nuclear weapons cannot be kept in space.

According to the agreement, it is forbidden to deploy weapons in space.
Russia and America are also among the signatories of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty. It states that ‘objects carrying nuclear weapons or any other type of weapon of mass destruction’ cannot be placed in orbit around the Earth. Russia and China are planning to first hold a vote on the amendment in the council.
