New Delhi: China’s new ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, has reached Delhi. The post of China’s ambassador to India was vacant for nearly 18 months, which is the longest gap in four decades. Xu said China is willing to work with India to “understand” each other’s concerns and find mutually acceptable solutions to “specific issues” through dialogue. He said this amid the long-running military standoff in eastern Ladakh.
Shu showed positive initiative
Xu, 60, replaces Sun Weidong, who leaves in October 2022 after completing his tenure in India. Xu’s arrival in India comes amid lengthy military and diplomatic talks between Beijing and New Delhi to resolve the military standoff in eastern Ladakh. “It is an honorable mission and an important duty. I look forward to deepening the understanding and friendship between the two countries, enhancing exchanges and cooperation in various fields and improving and taking forward bilateral relations,” he told PTI. “I will try my best to.”
Ambassador has been in Afghanistan and Romania
Xu Feihong said, “China is willing to work with India to understand each other’s concerns, find mutually acceptable solutions to specific issues through early dialogue, and change the situation as quickly as possible.” Xu has been China’s ambassador to Afghanistan and Romania.
‘China understands India’s concern’
Earlier, before leaving for India to take up his duties as ambassador, Feihong, in a conversation with ‘PTI-Bhasha’ and China’s ‘CGTN-TV’, had reiterated China’s stance that there is no way to achieve its trade surplus. Not intended. He had said, “There are many factors behind India’s trade deficit. China understands India’s concerns. It has never been our intention to maintain a trade surplus.”
