Supreme Court’s decision strengthened
The press note issued by the Commission said that the Commission is certainly feeling strengthened by the comments and decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court on the process of releasing the voting data by the Election Commission. This puts a great responsibility on the Commission to serve the electoral democracy without any controversy. Therefore, the Election Commission has decided to further expand the format of releasing voting data to include the full number of voters in each parliamentary constituency. It has been made publicly available.

The entire process is accurate, there is no discrepancy
The Commission said that the process of collection and storage of votes cast is tough and transparent. The Commission and its officers in the states are disseminating the voting data in a better way, keeping in mind the statutory considerations. The entire process of releasing the voting data from the date of commencement of polling on 19 April 2024 has been accurate, consistent and in accordance with the election laws. There has been no discrepancy in it.

Earlier, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to direct the Election Commission on a petition by a non-governmental organization (NGO), which requested the Commission to direct it to upload the polling station-wise voting percentage data on its website. On May 17, the Supreme Court had sought a week’s reply from the Election Commission on the NGO’s petition, which requested for a direction to upload the polling booth-wise voting percentage data on the Commission’s website within 48 hours of the completion of polling for each phase of the Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, the Election Commission opposed the NGO’s request by filing an affidavit and said that this would spoil the election atmosphere and create chaos in the electoral system in the midst of general elections.
