Narendra Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive time at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, June 9. Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi will be sworn in by President Draupadi Murmu at 7:15 pm, which will be telecast live across the country.
The Council of Ministers will also take oath today
An official announcement said, “The President will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the Prime Minister and other members of the Union Council of Ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 9, 2024 at 07.15 pm.” President Draupadi Murmu on Friday appointed Modi as the Prime Minister-designate, soon after BJP chief JP Nadda submitted a letter of support confirming the election of Narendra Modi as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. Apart from Modi, the Council of Ministers under the new NDA government will also take oath on Sunday evening.
Narendra Modi will equal Nehru’s record
Narendra Modi will take oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term as the head of the coalition government on Sunday. The BJP has not got a majority on its own in this election after two full terms of the NDA government with full majority. Modi will be the second leader to achieve this feat after the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru had won the general elections of 1952, 1957 and 1962.

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu, Seychelles Vice President Ahmed Afeef, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jagannath, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay have accepted the invitation for the ceremony.
Delhi declared a no-flying zone
Rashtrapati Bhavan shared pictures of preparations for the grand ceremony, where chairs, red carpet and other decorations have been put in place for the ceremony. Delhi Police has increased security by imposing prohibitory orders and the national capital has been declared a no-flying zone on June 9 and 10 for the ceremony.

The BJP is trying to give a message of continuity and dispel any perception of political weakness after surprisingly not performing as expected in the Lok Sabha elections. The party got 240 seats in these general elections, which is 32 less than the majority figure. The party had won 303 seats in the 2019 elections.

What traffic arrangements have been made for the swearing-in ceremony?
On the preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi, DCP Traffic Prashant Gautam said, “Extensive arrangements have been made for the swearing-in ceremony. About 1,100 traffic personnel have been deployed. The traffic personnel have been fully briefed. Entry and movement in the areas around the Rashtrapati Bhavan will be restricted from 2 pm onwards.”
Delhi Police issues traffic advisory
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory regarding the swearing-in ceremony, alerting commuters about the closure of some roads and routes in the national capital. 1100 traffic police personnel have been deployed. According to the Delhi Traffic Police, several roads will remain closed from 2 pm to 11 pm on Sunday. These include Sansad Marg (between Transport Bhawan and T-Point Rafi Ahmed Kidwal Marg), North Avenue Road, South Avenue Road, Kushak Road, Rajaji Marg, Krishna Menon Marg, Talkatora Road and Pandit Pant Marg.
Rajiv Ranjan arrives to meet Nitish
