The incidents of bridge collapse in Bihar are not stopping. Today, i.e. in the early hours of July 3, 2 bridges collapsed in Siwan district. With this incident, this is the third incident of bridge collapse in the last 10 days. Not only this, all these three bridges have collapsed in Maharajganj area. Of the two bridges that collapsed this morning, one bridge fell in Deoria Panchayat of Maharajganj and the other near Nautan Sikandarpur village of Maharajganj block. 10 days ago also the bridge connecting Patedha-Girauli of Maharajganj collapsed.
How did both the bridges collapse?
Local people were talked to after the bridge collapsed in Maharajganj. Local people say that these bridges are very old and have not been repaired for a long time. Apart from this, both these bridges have collapsed due to excessive soil cutting in the river. Local people also say that the bridge connecting Patedha-Girauli of Maharajganj, which collapsed 10 days ago, also collapsed due to soil cutting.
People also said that they had complained about this to the local authorities a few days ago but the matter was taken lightly. And this is the reason why the bridge collapsed today. Due to the collapse of the bridge, the movement of people has stopped. To start the movement of people, CO Deoria is working together with the head of the Panchayat.
How old were the bridges?
Of the two bridges that have collapsed today, one bridge is in Deoria Panchayat of Maharajganj and the other bridge is in Nautan Sikandarpur of Maharajganj block. Let us tell you that one of these bridges was built in the year 1998 at a cost of Rs 6 lakh from the funds of the then MP Prabhunath Singh and the other was built in the year 2004 at a cost of Rs 10 lakh. People say that these bridges were not repaired even once for a long time and this is the reason that both these bridges have collapsed. People also say that this time the record of Siwan district has been broken.
Tejashwi Yadav targeted the government
Today 3 more bridges collapsed in Bihar in a single day. In the last 15 days, a total of 9 bridges have been submerged in water in Bihar due to good governance. The double engine government can now blame the opposition for this and end its duties, well-mannered recovery system and double engine powered corruption.
Why are bridges falling one after the other in Bihar? High level committee formed for investigation
The Bihar government has formed a high level committee to investigate the various incidents of bridge collapse reported recently from different parts of the state. Six incidents of bridge collapse were reported in Bihar within the last 13 days. The latest incident is from Khausi Dangi village of Thakurganj block of Kishanganj on Sunday, where a small bridge built on the Bund river in the year 2009-10 from the MP fund of the then Lok Sabha member of the area collapsed. Most of the bridges (including those under construction) that have collapsed in Bihar in recent times were constructed or are being constructed by the Rural Works Department (RWD) of the state government.
Report will be submitted within two to three days
Bihar Rural Works Department Minister Ashok Chaudhary said, “A high level committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Engineer to investigate the incidents of bridge collapse in various parts of Bihar. The committee will find out the reasons for the bridge collapse and also suggest necessary steps to be taken. The committee will specifically investigate the incidents related to bridges being constructed or already constructed by RWD and has been asked to submit the report within two to three days.
Bridge collapse a serious matter
Ashok Choudhary said the initial report revealed that some of the bridges were not functional and some of them needed repairs. “For example, on June 18, a portion of the newly constructed 182-metre-long bridge over Bakra river at Pararia village in Araria district of Bihar collapsed. The bridge was constructed by RWD under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana but was not opened to the public as some construction work was pending,” he said. “But the collapse of the bridge is a serious matter and action will be taken against whoever is found guilty,” the minister said.
Inquiry directed
Minister Ashok Choudhary said the committee has been directed to investigate every detail, including the quality of material used in the construction of the foundation and structure of the bridges. Let us tell you that last week, incidents of bridge collapse were reported from Madhubani, Araria, Siwan and East Champaran districts in Bihar. Two bridges collapsed in Kishanganj district in the last six days.
