There were many allegations and counter-allegations regarding the Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath Puri temple in the recently held Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha. However, it is believed that the Ratna Bhandar may open soon. The Bharatiya Janata Party government of Odisha has formed a new high-level committee to monitor the process of reopening the Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath temple.
Why was a new committee formed?
The new committee has been formed by the Mohan Majhi government of Odisha so that a list of valuable items kept in the Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath temple can be prepared. On Thursday, the state’s Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said that the committee has been formed in this regard as per the instructions of the Orissa High Court.
The old committee was dissolved
Earlier in March this year, the previous Naveen Patnaik’s BJD government of Odisha had formed a 12-member committee headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Arijit Pasayat to monitor the list of jewelry and other valuable items kept in the Ratna Bhandar. However, the new government has dissolved this committee and formed a new committee.
PM Modi had also raised questions
In the election rallies of Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also raised the issue of the lost keys of the Ratna Bhandar of the Jagannath Puri temple. PM Modi had also accused the Naveen Patnaik government of suppressing the judicial report in this case. PM Modi had said that the judicial report will be made public after the BJP government is formed in Odisha.
