Bahraich: A 14-year-old boy died in a leopard attack in a village in Katarniaghat forest area in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. Divisional Forest Officer B. Shivshankar said on Saturday that Arvind Kumar (14), a resident of village Somaigaudhi Majra Manoharpurva under Motipur forest range, had gone with his family to guard the maize field late Friday evening.
Leopard attacked Arvind
He said that at around seven in the evening, a leopard sitting in the field attacked Arvind and started taking him away, on which the family members and the villagers present nearby tried to scare the leopard by making noise, due to which it left the boy and ran away. He said that the family members were taking the injured boy to a nearby government hospital but he died on the way.
The Divisional Forest Officer said that the post-mortem of the body is being done. After completing the legal formalities, financial assistance will be provided to the family members of the deceased soon. He said, “We have installed three cages around the village to catch the leopard. The area is being monitored 24 hours a day.” The DFO said three people have died in human-wildlife conflict in the Katarniaghat forest since April.
