Three people were killed and 24 injured when a bus skidded off the road and fell into a 200-foot deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Saturday. Officials said the accident occurred near Bhatyas when a private minibus was going from Bhalesha to Thathri.
He said rescue workers found a woman dead on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. This includes another woman and the bus driver.
Eight injured in critical condition
The deceased have been identified as Basheera Begum (50), Salima Begum (55) and bus driver Mohammad Asif (25). Officials said the condition of eight of the injured is said to be critical and they are being treated at the Government Medical College in Doda. Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, who reached the spot to monitor the rescue operation, said an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the accident.
22 people died in a road accident
A month ago, a bus carrying pilgrims fell into a 150 feet deep gorge in Akhnoor, Jammu. 22 people lost their lives and 69 were injured in this accident. This accident happened on the Jammu-Poonch highway. The police officer said that apart from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, about 90 people from Rajasthan were also travelling in the bus. These people were going from Hathras to Shiv Khodi. In this, PM Narendra Modi had announced to give Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
