Just a few days ago, three new laws have come into force in the country. Mamata Banerjee’s government of West Bengal constituted a committee to review three Acts namely Justice Act, Indian Civil Protection Code and Indian Evidence Act. The members of the committee will see what is in that law? Soon after this, Governor CV Anand Bose criticized the state’s decision. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wanted to know what is the purpose of that committee?
The State Secretariat Nabanna has constituted a seven-member committee on Wednesday for the implementation of three new laws in the state. The committee includes Asim Roy, Malay Ghatak, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Advocate General Sanjay Basu, State Director General of Police and Kolkata Police Commissioner. He will review these three new laws.
Mamata Banerjee opposed the new law
The Chief Minister had earlier said that her party would raise its voice in the monsoon session regarding this bill. The Trinamool Congress has said that the MPs of their party will raise their voice in Parliament regarding this new law and will demand a debate on it. At the same time, Mamata Banerjee has questioned this law and demanded its repeal.
Earlier, this committee was formed to look into the law. Governor CV Anand Bose raised questions on the committee formed by Nabanna.
A statement issued by his office said, Governor CV Anand Bose called upon Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to give an immediate report on the objectives of the committee to review the amended CrPC, IPC and Evidence Act.
The Governor wanted to know the purpose of the formation of this committee from the Chief Minister. He wrote on social media, “West Bengal or Bengal Banana cannot be a Republic.” He also raised the question, “When the central government sought the opinion of the West Bengal government before making a new law, did the state give any response?”
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that the three criminal laws passed by the Lok Sabha should be withdrawn immediately. Mamata Banerjee had described the manner in which the bills were passed as a ‘black chapter’ of democracy.
