The plan of the proposed solar power project in Bhagalpur, Bihar has now changed. At this place, three thermal power plants will be installed instead of solar power plant. These three plants will be of 800-800 MW. The central government has approved these three power plants and allocated a budget of Rs 21,400 crore. With the start of power generation from these plants, about 2 crore population of Bihar will get direct benefit. As soon as the supply starts from these power plants, there will be surplus electricity in Bihar and like other states, Bihar will also be included in the no power cut zone.
Earlier, a plan was prepared by the Energy Ministry of Bihar to set up a solar power project in Pirpainti at a cost of 20 thousand crores. Since there is a huge reserve of coal in this area. In view of this, the plan has been changed. Now a thermal power plant will be installed here instead of a solar power plant. Along with this, the budget of 20 thousand crores already fixed for this power plant has also been increased to 21 thousand 400 crores.
1020.60 acres of land acquired
According to Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, the responsibility of setting up this project has been given to Coal India. After the completion of the project, Coal India will also operate the power company. According to Energy Ministry officials, three power plants of 800 MW each will be installed under this project. 1020.60 acres of land has already been acquired for setting up and operating these three units. If required in the future, more land in the vicinity can be acquired.
The land belongs to the state government and the Centre will bear the expenses
According to officials, completion of this project will directly benefit about 2 crore population of Bihar. Not only this, there will be a permanent solution to the problem of power cuts in Bihar. The Bihar government was demanding this project for a long time, which has now been approved by the Central Government and has also given the budget. Under this project, the entire expenditure in land acquisition has been borne by the Bihar government. At the same time, the Central Government will bear the expenses from preparing the project to its operation. Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited has given approval in a letter written to the Coal Ministry in this regard.
That’s why the project was changed
According to officials, there are coal reserves in Bhagalpur, Bihar, especially in the Pirpainti area. The Rajmahal area here is known for coal mines. In such a situation, thermal power plants can be easily operated using the coal reserves here. On this basis, Coal India, a company of the Coal Ministry, had proposed a thermal power project here. The state and central governments have approved this proposal and decided to move forward with the thermal power project instead of solar. Since coal is also produced by Coal India Company, the responsibility of setting up and operating the thermal power project has also been given to Coal India Company.
