Vientiane: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar today held important meetings and bilateral talks with his counterparts and other leaders of several countries during ASEAN. During this, Jaishankar met his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues. Jaishankar is in the capital of the Laos People’s Democratic Republic to attend the meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The two leaders met on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings.
Jaishankar posted on ‘X’, “Met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings in Vientiane. Discussed our bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues.” Jaishankar met the leaders of Russia, European Union, South Korea, Singapore, Laos, Brunei and New Zealand on Friday and discussed various dimensions of bilateral cooperation. Sharing a photo of the two leaders, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a post on ‘X’, “Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar met on the sidelines of the ASEAN event.” Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with his South Korean counterpart and held extensive discussions on special strategic partnership.

Jaishankar said on ‘X’, “Glad to meet South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Taeul in Vientiane. Extensive talks were held on special strategic partnership. Our shared vision in the Indo-Pacific region is also opening new avenues of cooperation.” Jaishankar also met Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice President of the European Commission. He said, “Talked to Josep Borrell about the potential of India and the European Union to increase trade, adoption of clean energy and partnership in advanced technologies. Exchanged views on regional and global issues. Thanked Borrell for his support to strengthen India-EU relations.”
These issues were also discussed with Singapore
The Foreign Minister also met his Singapore counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan. Jaishankar said in a post on ‘X’, “Had a wonderful conversation with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Bala. Thank you to Singapore for advancing ASEAN-India relations as country coordinator over the last three years. We talked about creating a new agenda for our bilateral relations. Also appreciated his views on the current geopolitical situation.” He also met his counterparts from Indonesia and Malaysia. Jaishankar held several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Brunei and New Zealand and discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including education and agricultural technology.
India’s relations with Brunei complete 40 years
Jaishankar also held a meeting with his Brunei counterpart Dato Haji Eriwan. The two leaders released the logo to mark 40 years of diplomatic relations between India and Brunei. Jaishankar said, “I am confident that our cordial and friendly relations will grow even stronger.” He also met Laos Home Minister Vilayvo Ng Bouddakham, Industry and Commerce Minister Malaithong Kommasith, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Sanya Prasuth and Special Envoy Alounkio Kittikhoun. Jaishankar said, “Thank you Ambassador Prashant Agarwal for hosting us.”
