Liquor Scam case: The Supreme Court has reserved the decision on the bail plea of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Manish Sisodia has been in jail for 17 months due to the alleged liquor scam. Meanwhile, Manish Sisodia has sought relief citing the delay in the trial. The CBI and ED have held him responsible for the delay in the trial.
On the other hand, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, calling himself innocent, said that there is not a single evidence against him. He further said that he has already spent half the period of the minimum sentence in jail.
Senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi said this
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan heard the petitions filed by Manish Sisodia in the ED and CBI case. During this, senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, on behalf of Manish Sisodia, said, ‘There is no statement or WhatsApp chat related to Manish Sisodia. No connection of his with hawala operators has been established. There is no WhatsApp chat in his name. He further said, ‘Manish Sisodia has already spent half of the minimum sentence here in jail. This period is not ending.’
‘Trial delayed because of Manish Sisodia’
ASG SV Raju, who appeared on behalf of CBI and ED, said on this, ‘Trial has been delayed because of Manish Sisodia, otherwise it would have started. He keeps on submitting application after application. Manish Sisodia is completely responsible for this, not the agency. On this, Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, ‘Even if Sisodia sneezes, ED will go to court.’
During the hearing, Abhishek Manu Singhvi termed the arguments of ED as baseless, in which it was said that Manish Sisodia can tamper with the evidence after coming out on bail. He has been in jail for the last 17 months and statements of all have been recorded. On which the SSG said, he has already destroyed his phone records. Let us tell you that the CBI arrested Manish Sisodia on 26 February 2023 in the alleged liquor scam.
