The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on the bail petition filed by Abbas Ansari, son of UP’s strongman leader Mukhtar Ansari and SubhaSP MLA from Mau Sadar, in which a reply has been sought. During the hearing of the case, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of Abbas Ansari, termed the allegations leveled against Abbas Ansari as baseless.

Abbas Ansari, son of UP’s strongman Mukhtar Ansari and SubhaSP MLA, got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has put a stay on the arrest of Abbas Ansari in the Arms Act case till further orders. SubhaSP MLA from Mau Sadar Abbas Ansari is already absconding. On August 25, the court had declared Abbas absconding under Section 82. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government.

Who is Abbas Ansari?

Abbas Ansari had contested the Assembly elections 2022 on SubhaSP ticket from Mau Sadar seat, in which he won. Due to strict action against criminals and mafia in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has also tightened its grip on Mukhtar Ansari and his family. Abbas Ansari has been absconding for the last several months. On August 25, the MP-MLA court had declared Abbas Ansari a fugitive because he was not surrendering in the court. Other cases including Arms Act and Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) are registered against him.

What is the matter?

Mukhtar Ansari’s MLA son Abbas Ansari is wanted in a case related to misuse of arms license. In search of Abbas Ansari, Lucknow Police raided different places in UP and also tried to arrest him in Punjab and Rajasthan. The court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Abbas Ansari on July 14. Abbas Ansari is accused of transferring the arms license to New Delhi without informing the Lucknow Police. The court had issued a warrant against him regarding this. He is also accused of obtaining several weapons by fraudulently obtaining a license. However, during the hearing of the case, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of Abbas Ansari, termed the allegations leveled against Abbas Ansari as baseless.
