Minorities are being targeted since the coup in Bangladesh. Former PM Sheikh Hasina has fiercely attacked the caretaker Prime Minister Mohammad Yunus, who is leading the interim government. Sheikh Hasina has accused the Yunus government of mass killings of Hindus and targeting minorities in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina called Mohammad Yunus the mastermind
While virtually addressing an Awami League event in New York, Sheikh Hasina blamed Mohammad Yunus for the attacks on temples, churches and religious organization ISKCON. Hasina said, ‘I was accused of mass murders. In fact, it is Mohammad Yunus, who along with the students is involved in mass murders under a well-planned scheme. He is the mastermind of these attacks.’
Hindus, Buddhists and Christians all are being killed
Referring to the atrocities against minorities in the country, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Today teachers and police are all being attacked and killed. Hindus, Buddhists, Christians are being targeted. Churches and many temples have been attacked. Why are minorities being targeted in Bangladesh now?’
She did not want genocide
The former prime minister claimed that like her father and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, there was a plan to kill her too. Hasina said that she left Bangladesh because she did not want ‘genocide’.
So many people would have been killed in Gana Bhavan – Sheikh Hasina
The former PM said, ‘If I wanted to remain in power, there would have been a genocide. When people were being killed indiscriminately, I decided that I should leave. If my security personnel had fired bullets, many people would have been killed and dead bodies would have been strewn in Gana Bhavan (PM House). I did not want this.’
Sheikh Hasina fled from Bangladesh to India
Let us tell you that Sheikh Hasina fled from Bangladesh to India on 5 August amid violent student protests. After this, the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus has taken charge of the country.
