Today is the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and on this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Madhya Pradesh today where he laid the foundation stone of the Ken-Betwa river linking project. PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development projects in Khajuraho. Ken-Betwa river linking is the country’s first river linking project under the National Perspective Plan. This project will provide irrigation facilities in many districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, which will benefit lakhs of farmer families.
Target to complete by March 2030
This project will also provide drinking water facilities to the people of the region. Along with this, hydropower projects will contribute more than 100 MW in green energy. This project will also provide employment opportunities to the people. This ambitious project of PM Modi has been targeted to be completed by March 2030. For this, the work of land acquisition, giving compensation to the affected people, getting environmental clearance is going on.
Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil will also be present in the program. PM Modi will arrive in Khajuraho today at 12:10 pm and will leave for Delhi at 2:20 pm.
Drinking water facility along with irrigation
With the foundation stone laying of this project by PM Modi, Vajpayee’s dream of linking rivers will take a concrete shape in Madhya Pradesh. Ken-Betwa Link National Project is the largest irrigation project in the country to adopt underground pressure pipe irrigation system. This project will provide irrigation facility to 8 lakh 11 thousand hectares of area in 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Damoh, Shivpuri, Datia, Raisen, Vidisha and Sagar and will benefit 44 lakh farmer families.
Increase in crop production and farmers’ income will strengthen the rural economy and construction of hydropower projects will create new employment opportunities with a contribution of 103 MW in green energy. Better water management and adequate water supply to industrial units will lead to industrial development and will also boost employment.
Drinking water facility to 44 lakh population of MP and 21 lakh population of UP
This project will provide annual irrigation facility to 59 thousand hectares in Uttar Pradesh and stabilization of existing irrigation in 1.92 lakh hectare area, which will provide irrigation facility in Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur and Banda districts of Uttar Pradesh. The project will provide drinking water facility to 44 lakh population of Madhya Pradesh and 21 lakh population of Uttar Pradesh.
Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project
PM Modi will inaugurate the floating solar project established in Omkareshwar of Khandwa district. In the first phase of the project, power generation has started at full capacity from October this year. It is proposed to sign a contract with the selected developer “Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited” after necessary consent from MPPACA for the 240 MW capacity of the second phase of the project. Dedicating the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project to the people of the state on the holy river Maa Narmada demonstrates the energy self-sufficiency of the state and the government’s continuous efforts towards green energy.
Bhoomi Pujan of Atal Gram Sushasan Bhawans
Prime Minister Modi will also distribute the first installment by performing Bhoomi Pujan of 1153 Atal Gram Sushasan Bhawans in Madhya Pradesh. Out of 23 thousand Gram Panchayats of the state, 2500 Gram Panchayats without buildings, dilapidated buildings and unusable have been identified for approval of new buildings. In the initial phase, works worth Rs 437.62 crore have been approved for 1153 new Panchayat buildings. Former Prime Minister Late Vajpayee was of the opinion that Panchayat Bhawan is the most basic and important infrastructure of the Gram Panchayat. These buildings have an important role in the practical conduct of work and responsibilities of the Gram Panchayats and in the execution of work. To strengthen the Panchayats, the Madhya Pradesh Government has decided to approve new Panchayat Bhawans in all the Gram Panchayats and Cluster Panchayat Bhawans at the cluster level.
