An attack on a sarpanch’s vehicle has been reported in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district. Four men allegedly broke the windshield of a sarpanch’s SUV and threw several condoms filled with petrol inside the vehicle, police said on Friday.
Sarpanch and another injured
Police officials said sarpanch Namdev Nikam and another person in the vehicle were injured in the attack. The attack took place in Tuljapur around 10 pm on Thursday night when they were attacked. Nikam, the sarpanch of Mesai Jawalga, was travelling from Barul to the village in his SUV.
Condoms thrown inside vehicle
Police said four men on two motorcycles came close to his vehicle and started throwing eggs at the front windshield of Nikam’s vehicle. The group broke the windshield of the SUV with a cement block that acted as a hammer. Police said the attackers also threw condoms filled with petrol inside the vehicle and then sprayed the flammable fuel.
Case registered for attempt to culpable homicide
Based on Nikam’s complaint, Tuljapur police have registered a case against four unidentified attackers under Section 110 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) related to attempt to culpable homicide. Nikam told the police that he lives in Pune. He comes to the village two to three times a week. Police said that the sarpanch told that he has no enmity with anyone in Mesai Jawalga.
A sarpanch was murdered in Beed district
At the same time, the police have started investigating the matter. This attack on the village head has happened at a time when there is a lot of anger among the people over the kidnapping and murder of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh of Masjog village in Beed district earlier this month. The opposition has claimed that Valmik Karad, a close aide of state minister Dhananjay Munde, is the mastermind behind this murder.
