Prime Minister Narendra Modi today i.e. on Sunday inaugurated the 13 kilometer long additional section of Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar.
With this inauguration, Namo Bharat trains have arrived in Delhi.
At present, trains were running for passengers at 9 stations between Sahibabad and Meerut South. With this inauguration, the operational section of the Namo Bharat Corridor has expanded to 55 km, with a total of 11 stations. After the inauguration, Namo Bharat trains will be available for passengers at an interval of every 15 minutes from 5 pm on Sunday.
How much will be the fare from Delhi to Meerut?
The fare from the first operational station, New Ashok Nagar station, to Meerut South in the direction of Delhi to Meerut is Rs 150 for standard coach and Rs 225 for premium coach. With the start of operations on this section, Meerut city is now directly connected to the national capital Delhi through Namo Bharat trains.
The journey will take only 40 minutes
This will reduce the travel time by one-third, so that passengers will be able to travel from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South in just 40 minutes. So far, more than 50 lakh passengers have travelled by Namo Bharat trains. Construction work is progressing rapidly in the remaining sections of the corridor, namely New Ashok Nagar-Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South-Modipuram.
A major station, Anand Vihar
In this new route, 6 km of the 13 km section is underground. This includes Anand Vihar, a major station of the corridor. This is the first time that the Namo Bharat train will run in an underground section. The second station in this section is New Ashok Nagar, an elevated station. Both stations are located in Delhi.
One of the largest stations
Under the PM Gati Shakti-National Master Plan, Namo Bharat stations have been designed and built in such a way that they can be easily connected to existing modes of public transport like bus stands, railway stations and metro stations wherever possible. The new station of Namo Bharat is Anand Vihar underground station and is one of the largest stations. From here passengers will be able to travel to Meerut South in just 35 minutes.
This station has been designed in such a way that it can be easily connected to 6 other existing modes of public transport. These include ISBTs located at Anand Vihar and Kaushambi, two corridors of Metro (Pink and Blue Line), Anand Vihar Railway Station and City Bus Stand. The outer structure of this 297 meter long and 35 meter wide station has been made with grey colored facade.
Facility of lifts and escalators
The walls and pillars inside the station are decorated with vitreous enamel panels. Inside the station, stairs along with lifts and escalators have been provided to go from the concourse to the platform level. New Ashok Nagar is the first elevated Namo Bharat station to be operational on the Delhi section. Here, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor crosses the New Ashok Nagar Metro Station at a height of 20 meters.
Connected with the Blue Line of the Metro
Constructing a station at such a height above an already operational metro station without disrupting the service is a major achievement from the engineering point of view. This station has been connected with the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro through a 90 meter long FOB. Passengers will be able to reach the New Ashok Nagar station of the Metro without going out on the road. This is the reason why this station will play an important role in the journey from Meerut to Noida.
Coaches are reserved for women
From this station, passengers will be able to reach Meerut South in just 40 minutes. Each train in Namo Bharat has one coach reserved for women and other coaches also have reserved seats for women, elderly and Divyangjans. Inside Namo Bharat trains, specific spaces have been provided for wheelchairs and stretchers.
An attendant is available on each train to ensure assistance and convenience of all passengers. Additionally, a panic button is provided inside the coach and on the platform screen doors for help in case of emergency.
