A shocking incident was reported on Monday from the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, on the occasion of Republic Day. A dispute broke out between two groups during a tricolor rally in Nityanand Nagar, Ghatkopar West, on Republic Day. The incident occurred around 11:45 AM when young children were holding a tricolor rally, chanting “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” During this time, a tailor named Asif, who was present at the scene, allegedly asked the children to stop chanting the slogans. The children complained to their parents about this. Following this, an argument ensued between Asif and the children’s parents.
What allegations were made by both sides?
The children and their families allege that Aziz Sheikh and his associates opposed the chanting of “Vande Mataram,” “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” and the tricolor rally, and demanded action against them. On the other hand, Ariz and his neighbor Fatima completely denied these allegations. They claimed that they never opposed patriotic slogans or the tricolor flag, and that there was only a misunderstanding regarding the noise, which was unnecessarily blown out of proportion. They alleged that the matter is being deliberately given a Hindu-Muslim angle and that they are being framed.
Police register FIR
After the incident, the police initially described it as a matter between residents of the same neighborhood, advised them to resolve it amicably, and refused to register a complaint. Following this, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya and BJP workers reached the Ghatkopar police station and demanded action. After Kirit Somaiya’s intervention, the police registered a complaint. Based on the complaint of Sandhya Samarjit Guha, an FIR has been registered against Aziz Sheikh, Abdullah Sheikh, Gaus Mohammad Sheikh, Rizwan Sheikh, and other unknown persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The police are currently investigating the matter.
