Colombo: After the rape of a female doctor in Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province, fellow doctors on Wednesday declared a 24-hour strike. This incident happened with the female doctor when she was going to her residence after finishing her night shift duty on Monday. After this incident, there is a lot of anger among the doctors and questions are also being raised on security.
Police arrested the accused
The police said that the person who was following the doctor pointed a knife at her and allegedly raped her. The doctors’ union ‘Government Medical Officers Association’ (GMOA) declared a 24-hour strike demanding the arrest of the accused. At present, the police have arrested the suspected accused on Wednesday.
The strike will continue
The accused has been identified as a military deserter who was released from jail three days ago for drug-related crimes. However, even after the arrest, the doctors’ union said that they will continue the strike
