A major accident was averted on Monday on the Raigarha-Malkangiri-Koraput railway line in Odisha. According to the information, a freight train hit an ambulance between Sikarpai and Bhalumaska ​​stations. Even after this, the train did not stop and dragged the ambulance for about 100 meters. It is a matter of relief that no one was injured in this incident. It is being told that eight patients were going for eye surgery in the ambulance. Meanwhile, the ambulance got stuck on the track, then the train came and this accident happened.

Eight patients were present
According to the information, eight patients were in the ambulance of a private eye hospital. All of them came from Kanipai, Kanjam Jodi, Jhakudu, Betalang and Chakrakalang villages of Sikarpai Panchayat. All the patients were going to Ananta Eye Hospital for eye surgery. An ASHA worker was also present with them. On the way, the ambulance got stuck on the railway track. Meanwhile, a freight train came on the track and dragged the ambulance for about 100 meters. However, the alert loco pilot immediately stopped the train by applying emergency brakes, averting a major accident.

Railways gave a statement

It was fortunate that all the patients and the driver in the ambulance had come out safely before the accident, so no one was injured. East Coast Railway has issued a clarification on this incident. According to the railway, a major accident was averted due to the vigilance of the loco pilot. The railway also informed that the spot was fenced under security on 3 November 2024, but the villagers had illegally removed this fence. This is why this incident happened, which the railway has described as a case of illegal encroachment. However, the railway has registered a case in this serious violation.
