Acting on credible information about the arrival of a consignment of sophisticated weapons from across the border, police teams led by SSP Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh conducted a search operation in the area of Ghonewal village. During the search, a bag containing sophisticated weapons and ammunition was recovered from the banks of the Ravi River along the India-Pakistan border. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the source and destination of the recovered weapons and ammunition.
He further stated that more recoveries and arrests are expected in the coming days. An FIR has been registered in this regard. In a post on the matter, the DGP wrote, “Amritsar Rural Police has achieved a major success by busting an arms smuggling module linked to Pakistan. A cache of sophisticated weapons has been recovered from Ghonewal village near the India-Pakistan border.”
An investigation is underway to expose the nexus.
He further wrote, “This prompt and vigilant action has averted a major incident.” In view of the recent inputs about increased activities of Pakistan sponsored terrorists and inter-gang rivalry, especially in the border areas, further investigation is underway to unravel the entire nexus, including the forward and backward linkages of this network.
