A major accident occurred involving an F-35 aircraft in Alaska; the pilot is safe but the plane is completely damaged.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP): A single-seat F-35 fighter jet crashed during a training exercise at a base in Alaska on Tuesday. However, a US Air Force pilot has been reported safe in this accident. Colonel Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, told a news conference that the pilot experienced a “malfunction during flight”. After this he jumped out of the plane. He told that the plane crashed while landing at Eielson Air Force Base.

He said that the pilot had declared an emergency during the flight before the accident and his condition is stable and he is being treated at a hospital. The Air Force said in a statement that the plane suffered significant damage in the accident that happened on Tuesday afternoon. Eielson Air Force Base is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Fairbanks. Townsend said in the statement that the Air Force will “conduct a thorough investigation to reduce such incidents.”

F-35 can fly continuously for 12 hours
The US F-35 aircraft is capable of flying continuously for 12 hours. The F-35 can reach almost anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere in one mission. Earlier in May, an F-35 fighter jet flying from Texas to Edwards Air Force Base near Los Angeles crashed after stopping to refuel in New Mexico. The seriously injured pilot was taken to hospital. In October, a Marine investigation blamed the F-35 pilot for exiting the aircraft when it was not necessary, causing the fighter to fly unmanned for 11 minutes before crashing in rural South Carolina in 2023.
