A man who has murdered 42 women has also confessed to dismembering their bodies. He is one of the 13 people who have escaped from the custody of Nairobi Police in Kenya. 33-year-old Collins Khalusha was described by the police as “a beast and a psychopath” after being arrested. Kenyan police arrested him in July after finding bodies near a mine. Police said that when some policemen went to the police station at five in the morning to give breakfast to the officer, they came to know that Collins Khalusha had escaped.
According to the police, Khalusha and other prisoners (who were of Eritrean origin and were allegedly detained for staying illegally in Kenya) cut the wire mesh in their prison cells and escaped by jumping over the wall. Mohammad Amin, who is investigating this case, said that this incident is really shocking. This accused was a very important suspect in this case. Serious charges were to be made on this. We are investigating the incident and we will take further action according to the investigation.
Body parts recovered in sacks
The accused Khalusha, who escaped from jail, is accused of killing 42 women in the last two years. He has also confessed to this himself. Not only this, he has also confessed to throwing the bodies in the mine. That mine is now used as a dump. Police said that at least 10 sacks full of pieces of women’s bodies have been recovered from the same place, but when Khalusha was presented in court last month, his lawyer John Nedgwa said that his client was tortured to make a confession. But the magistrate had ordered that the police keep him in custody for 30 more days to complete the investigation.
Kenyan police on target of human rights organizations
The discovery of bodies in a mine just 100 meters from the police station has once again drawn attention towards the Kenyan police. Kenyan police have long been accused by human rights groups of committing unlawful killings. Police and security agencies were also in the headlines due to the anti-government protests that began in June. During this time, about 10 Kenyans were reported missing. The police were accused of killing them.
This criminal had fled six months ago
Human rights organizations as well as the Free Police Inspection Authority (which is a civilian watchdog for police work) have also said that they are investigating the deaths in the mine. The escape of 13 prisoners has happened after six months. Earlier, Kevin Kangethe, a Kenyan wanted in the US for murder, escaped barefoot from another police station in Nairobi. Officers let him out of the cell to talk to his lawyer, but a few days later he was arrested again in a different county.
