Dozens of huts on fire
A massive fire broke out last night in the huts behind the metro station in Delhi’s Rithala area. The fire quickly spread to dozens of huts on the grounds. The fire caused the cooking gas cylinders stored in the slums in the Bengali settlement to explode one by one, further spreading the fire. The severity of the fire can be gauged from the fact that 29 fire engines arrived at the scene to douse it. The fire was brought under control after several hours of effort.
One person died
Initial information suggests that around 400-500 huts were destroyed in the fire, including plastic waste stored in some areas. Meanwhile, police sources said that several LPG cylinders exploded, further fueling the fire and spreading panic among residents. Fire officer SK Dua said, “We received information that a fire had broken out in the huts of the Bengali settlement located between the Rithala Metro Station and the Delhi Jal Board. Fire engines were sent to the scene. A total of 29 fire engines are on the scene, and the fire has now been brought under control.” According to reports, one person has died in the fire, while another is injured. The injured has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
