Pregnant Elephant Death: A case of brutal killing of a pregnant elephant has come to light on the Assam-Meghalaya border. The poachers killed the elephant and cut its flesh and its rotten body was found in the East Apricola Reserve Forest in Topatoli village near Guwahati. As soon as the incident was reported, police and forest department teams reached the spot and started investigation.

According to a PTI report, a senior official said that the carcass was seen inside the East Apricola Proposed Reserve Forest near Topatoli village on the outskirts of the state capital. The carcass was rotten and we found that poachers had cut off some part of the flesh and taken it away. However, the fetus was still there.

Poachers from Assam-Meghalaya border suspected

He said that according to initial investigation, the elephant was killed by suspected poachers from Meghalaya about 15 days ago. We have informed the Forest Department of Meghalaya and they are starting investigation on that side. He said that the Forest Department has started investigation by registering a criminal case and the Meghalaya Forest Department has also been informed so that the culprits can be caught as soon as possible.

Demand for strict action raised

Let us tell you that this incident has shaken the wildlife conservation organizations. People are demanding immediate arrest of the accused and strict punishment. There have been incidents of elephant hunting in Assam before, but this time killing a pregnant elephant and taking away the meat shows the increasing courage of wildlife criminals. However, the Forest Department has said that the culprits will be arrested soon and strict legal action will be taken against them.
