A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the India-Pakistan match, demanding the cancellation of the India-Pak T20 cricket match to be held in Dubai on September 14 in the Asia Cup. This petition has been filed by four law students led by Urvashi Jain. According to the petitioners, organizing a cricket match with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor plays with national dignity and public sentiment.
‘Cricket is not above the sacrifice of citizens’
According to the Bar and Bench report, according to the petition, cricket cannot be placed above national interest, lives of citizens or the sacrifice of armed personnel. The petitioners have also sought directions for the implementation of the National Sports Administration Act 2025. This petition has been filed through advocates Sneha Rani, Abhishek Verma and Mohammad Anas Chaudhary.
Appeal to the Supreme Court to intervene
The petition has appealed to the Supreme Court to intervene. The high-profile match, often dubbed as the biggest contest in world cricket, remains the focal point of the Asia Cup. However, uncertainty now looms over the match due to national security and emotional concerns raised in a PIL. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the matter before a scheduled date.
