New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the capital Delhi is going to make 12,000 contract employees permanent during its House meeting on Tuesday. Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi gave this information during a press conference on Sunday. Announcing this decision, former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said that the AAP-led MCD is committed to regularizing temporary employees. He said, “In the last two years, we have made 4,500 (contract) employees permanent. Now in the MCD House meeting on February 25, we are going to regularize more than 12,000 employees in all departments including sanitation workers, junior engineers, senior engineers, gardeners and other contract employees. ”

Atishi has posted a post giving information about this on the social media platform X. In her post, Atishi wrote, “The AAP government in Delhi MCD has taken a historic decision to make 12,000 temporary employees of all departments permanent. This proposal will be approved in the MCD House meeting to be held on February 25. We are going to fulfill the promise we made to the temporary employees of MCD. No government in the history of the country has taken such a big decision, which the “AAP” government of MCD is going to take today under the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal ji.” At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal wrote on Instagram, “Best wishes to all 12,000 temporary employees of MCD. The Aam Aadmi Party has taken a historic decision to make these temporary employees of the corporation permanent, keeping its promise. This proposal will be passed in the MCD House meeting on February 25.”

Taunting BJP

Apart from this, Atishi compared the rule of the ‘AAP’ led government in Punjab and said that temporary teachers are being made permanent there, which reflects the party’s commitment towards the rights of workers. Atishi took a dig at the BJP, claiming that the party often makes excuses to avoid fulfilling its commitments. “I knew the BJP would try to evade its promises. So, before appointing a new chief minister, we ensured that the Delhi government clearly presented its financial position,” she said. Atishi highlighted Delhi’s economic growth under the Aam Aadmi Party and said when the party first formed the government in 2015, the city’s budget was Rs 30,000 crore. “Despite not getting any financial support from the central government, we strengthened Delhi’s economy. Today, the budget for 2024-25 has reached Rs 77,000 crore, which is a nearly 2.5-fold increase in the last decade,” she claimed.
