The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday said that its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal is on a two-day visit to Gujarat. AAP chief Kejriwal will address a rally of cotton farmers in Chotila today. He is opposing the abolition of import duty on cotton and he also raised this issue in a recent press conference in Delhi.
At the same time, Delhi BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva targeted Kejriwal over the floods in Punjab. Sachdeva said that Arvind Kejriwal is on a political tour in Gujarat.
BJP president targeted Kejriwal
He said that Punjab is facing floods and it needs full cooperation of the state government. As long as Kejriwal was in Delhi, he had nothing to do with the problems of Delhi and now when the Punjab Chief Minister is not well, he fled to Gujarat instead of supporting the state. Our Chief Minister spoke to the Punjab Chief Minister and announced a help of Rs 5 crore. Which will go to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Fund. This is humanity.
Arvind Kejriwal’s attack on the central government
In fact, Arvind Kejriwal had demanded on August 28 that India should impose more duty on US imports. He alleged that the decision of the BJP-led central government to waive 11 percent duty on American cotton would harm local farmers.
There will be very few buyers of cotton
He said that India used to impose 11 percent duty on cotton imported from America. This meant that American cotton was more expensive than domestic cotton. But the Modi government has decided to waive the duty from August 19 to September 30. This means that textile industries will get cheap cotton. He said that when our cotton comes to the market for sale in October, there will be very few buyers.
