Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) has made a big announcement regarding the student union elections in Delhi University and its affiliated colleges. On Friday, AAP’s Delhi State Convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj announced with students associated with ASAP that ASAP will help students in contesting DU student union elections. Interested students can apply for this from 15 to 25 August. He said that students coming from ordinary families who are not able to contest DUSU elections due to lack of money despite being qualified, will be helped by ASAP to contest the elections.
AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that students will have to give 50 proposers for contesting DUSU elections and 10 for colleges. Along with this, they will also have to explain their objective in a one minute video and 500 words. The objective of ASAP is to strengthen democracy from the root through alternative politics, so that students choose clean politics.
Delhi University is one of the world’s prestigious universities.
Saurabh Bhardwaj first of all wished the countrymen on Independence Day and said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and all the freedom fighters got this country free. Their dream was that the country should be free and people should choose their own governments so that a good, healthy democracy can flourish in the country. But for the past few years, many kinds of flaws have been coming in democracy.
Saurabh Bhardwaj said that Delhi University located in the country’s capital Delhi is one of the most prestigious universities in the world. The student union politics in DU also determines the political outlook of the whole country. Saurabh Bhardwaj said that today a common child from an ordinary family cannot even think that he will contest the Delhi University elections or a big party will make him contest the student union elections. Because to contest DUSU elections, one needs to have big cars.
Students coming to DU have cars worth one crore rupees each. In student union elections, the atmosphere is created only if there are 20-20 vehicles, otherwise the atmosphere will not be created. Before the elections, student leaders book the entire PVR and show movies to fellow students, discos are organized for the students and the student votes for the same student leader the next day.
Change is needed in student politics now-AAP
Saurabh Bhardwaj said that we started putting this poison in our roots from student politics itself. In student politics itself, we taught a 17-year-old girl that when she reached college after studying in school, she came to know that they showed us a movie on VPR and the next day that girl voted for his party. Today politics has become such that when a student leader shows them, the students vote for him the next day.
He said that when these same students grow up, they give their vote to someone by giving them a gold chain, shoes, saree or 1100 rupees. Therefore, ASP has decided to strengthen democracy from the roots and is going to make a small beginning on Independence Day. This clean student union politics is starting from today. We want that the children who are contesting the student union elections should also be selected through a transparent process.
Saurabh Bhardwaj said that ASP is inviting applications from students willing to contest the student union elections of Delhi University from today. If a student is willing to contest the student union elections in DU or its affiliated college and he does not have money to contest the elections, he is from a normal family, but he has the ability to contest the elections, then ASP will assess him on the basis of that ability. If that student looks a suitable candidate, then ASP, the student wing of Aam Aadmi Party, will make him contest the DU student union elections.
Saurabh Bhardwaj said that for this we have also fixed some qualifications. If a student wants to contest the college student union election, he will have to bring a proposal of support from 10 students of his college and if a student wants to contest the Delhi University Student Union election, he will have to bring a proposal of support from 50 fellow students from five different colleges. In the proposal, the student should say that he wants that student to contest the election.
Applications can be submitted from 15 August to 25 August
He said that the process of taking applications has been started from 15 August and applications can be submitted till 25 August. Also, the student will have to make a one-minute video appealing for votes. If that student can impress us with a one-minute video, then he can also impress fellow students. This will be his assessment. At the same time, the student will have to tell in 200 to 500 words why and how he can win the election? This is the beginning of an ideal political system of AAP student wing ASAP. Students have a lot of idealism. We will try to ensure that the idealism of the students does not end after watching a movie in PVR.
During this, AAP MLA from Burari Sanjeev Jha said that this is such a beginning where the talent of children will not be measured by their cars or money, but by their own ability. How is the leadership ability and speech of the students. All these criteria should be there in it. If politics has to be cleaned, then the beginning will have to be made from the college itself. This responsibility has been taken on the shoulders of Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing AASAP. All the children who want a change in politics.
We hope that they will become its partners and stakeholders. He said that our effort is also to make all the colleges where elections are held, as well as those colleges where elections are not held, a part of this alternative politics by connecting them with AASAP. Along with Delhi University, all the universities in Delhi and outside Delhi should also become a part of AASAP and start changing the politics of the country.
