PM Modi Abu Dhabi Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates i.e. UAE. During this, he will inaugurate the Hindu temple on 14th February. Earlier, he reached Abu Dhabi on Tuesday afternoon, where he was given a grand welcome. During this, Modi said that ‘I am grateful for this warm welcome. Whenever I come here to meet you, I always feel that I have come to meet my family. We have met five times in the last seven months. This shows our close relations. During this, bilateral discussions took place between the two countries on various issues, during which many strategic issues were discussed. Both the leaders witnessed mutual consultations on these subjects.
Bilateral Investment Treaty: This agreement will play an important role in further promoting investment in both the countries. India has signed both a bilateral investment treaty and a comprehensive economic partnership agreement with the UAE.
Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Electrical Interconnection and Trade: This opens up new areas of cooperation in the field of energy, including energy security and energy trade.
An Intergovernmental Framework Agreement between India and the United Arab Emirates on the India-Middle East Economic Corridor: This will build on previous understanding and cooperation on this matter and will promote cooperation between India and the UAE to advance regional connectivity.
MoU on Cooperation in Digital Infrastructure Projects: This will create a framework for comprehensive cooperation including investment cooperation in the digital infrastructure sector. It will also facilitate sharing of technical knowledge, skills and expertise.
Protocol on Cooperation between the National Archives of the two countries: This protocol will shape comprehensive bilateral cooperation in this field, including the restoration and preservation of archival materials.
MoU for Cooperation in the Field of Heritage and Museums: This will promote engagement between the two countries, with the aim of supporting the Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, Gujarat.
Agreement on interlinking of instant payment platforms – UPI (India) and ANI (UAE): This will facilitate seamless cross-border transactions between the two countries. This follows the MoU on Interlinking Payments and Messaging Systems signed in July last year during the visit of the Honorable Prime Minister to Abu Dhabi.
Agreement on Interlinking of Domestic Debit/Credit Cards – RuPay (India) and Jaywan (UAE): An important step in building cooperation in the financial sector, this will increase the universal acceptance of RuPay across the UAE.
PM Modi will also visit Qatar
Earlier, before leaving for the tour, the Prime Minister posted on social media platform ‘X’ that he was looking forward to meeting his ‘brother’ UAE President with whom he has good relations. PM Modi will visit Qatar after his two-day visit to UAE. Addressing a special briefing on PM Modi’s UAE visit, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Quatra said, during his visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral meetings with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other high dignitaries of Qatar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan launched the UPI RuPay card service here on Tuesday. President Nahyan ‘swiped’ a card emblazoned with his name as he kicked off the service in Abu Dhabi.
Modi told President Nahyan, “We are ushering in a new fintech era with the launch of my UPI RuPay card and your Jaiwan card.” He called it a major achievement. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that on this occasion both the leaders also witnessed many bilateral agreements.
This includes an agreement on linking instant payment platforms – UPI (India) and ANI (UAE). This will provide the facility of cross border transactions to the people of both the countries without any hindrance. Another agreement to integrate domestic debit/credit cards was signed between Rupay (India) and Jaywan (UAE). This will help in increasing the acceptance of RuPay in UAE.
