After a long time, relations between Russian and American officials seem to be improving. Top diplomats of both the countries met in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Here they discussed improving mutual relations and starting talks to end the war in Ukraine. These developments between the two countries reflect a major change in American foreign policy under the new US President Donald Trump.
Agreement on restoration of staff in embassies
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and other senior officials attended the meeting held in Saudi Arabia. The purpose of this meeting was to improve relations between the two countries. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed after the meeting that both the countries have agreed to restore staff in their respective embassies in Washington and Moscow.
Through this meeting, the US and Russia are trying to create a mission to support Ukraine peace talks, bilateral relations and wider cooperation. Along with this, the purpose of the meeting was also to pave the way for a meeting between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to AP, Rubio said that consent of all parties will be necessary to end the war in Ukraine and Europe will be a part of the talks. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also said that US-Russian officials have agreed to form a high-level team for talks to promote peace and economic cooperation in Ukraine. Along with this, US-Russian officials have agreed to restore staff in the embassy.
