Now the United Nations has also commented on the question of arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and freezing of Congress party’s account. The United Nations has said that it hopes that everyone will be able to vote in the Lok Sabha elections in India in a free and fair environment. Earlier, Germany and America had also reacted to the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. After which India expressed strong objection and summoned German and American diplomats.
Responding to the questions asked about the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal and freezing of Congress party’s bank account, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has said that it is expected that political and civil rights will be protected in India like other countries with elections so that everyone is able to vote in a free and fair environment.
The United States has commented twice on the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal on charges of scam in Delhi liquor policy and the allegations of freezing of Congress party’s bank accounts before the elections. The US State Department spokesperson also said on Monday that the US is closely monitoring the reports of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest and promotes a fair legal process. On this comment of America, the Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that India’s legal processes are based on an independent judiciary which is committed to objective and timely decisions. It is inappropriate to question the Indian judiciary.
Committed to protect from the influence of external power: Foreign Ministry
During the weekly press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the recent comment of the US State Department is inappropriate. External comments on our electoral and legal processes are not acceptable.
The legal processes in India are run only by law. Any allied country and especially democratic countries should not have any problem in appreciating this process. India is proud of its independent and strong democratic institutions and we are committed to protecting them from the influence of any external power.”
India had also summoned the German diplomat
After Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the German Foreign Ministry had said that we have taken note of it. India is a democratic country. We hope that all standards related to the independence of the judiciary and basic democratic principles will be applied in this case as well. Kejriwal has full right to a fair trial. The German Foreign Ministry spokesperson had also said that the presumption of innocence is an important element of the rule of law and it should be applicable in this case as well.
