Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari, who allegedly defrauded Dr. Ajay Murdia, the owner of Indira Group of Companies in Rajasthan, were arrested and brought to Udaipur by the police on Monday night. The police had arrested the couple in Mumbai in connection with a ₹30 crore fraud case. They were brought to Udaipur by road and will be produced in court on Tuesday.
Udaipur DSP Chhagan Rajpurohit said that when the police arrived outside Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari’s flat to arrest them, their personal security officer tried to stop them and argued with the police. The couple was watching all this from inside their flat via CCTV cameras. The police had to wait for half an hour for the flat door to open. When the police finally tried to arrest them, the couple argued extensively with the officers.
Police camped in Mumbai for four days
The Udaipur police had been camping in Mumbai for four days to arrest Vikram Bhatt. The police were continuously raiding Vikram’s possible hideouts and secretly monitoring his movements, including when he was leaving and entering his residence. On Sunday, with the help of Mumbai police, Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt were arrested. They were then brought to Udaipur by road.
Offered to make a biopic of his wife
Dr. Ajay Murdia, the owner of Indira Group of Companies in Udaipur, filed an FIR on November 17 against Vikram Bhatt and eight others for a ₹30 crore fraud. Dr. Murdia alleged that he met Dinesh Kataria at an event. Dinesh Kataria offered to make a biopic of his wife. In this connection, Dinesh Kataria invited him to Vrindavan Studio in Mumbai on April 24, 2024.
Lured with the promise of ₹100 to ₹200 crore profit
Kataria introduced him to Vikram Bhatt, where they discussed making the biopic. A few days later, Vikram and Shwetambari Bhatt told Dr. Ajay Murdia that by financing an additional 7 crore rupees, they could produce four films for 47 crore rupees. They claimed these films would generate a profit of 100 to 200 crore rupees upon release.
The deal for the four films was for 47 crore rupees.
The DSP stated that subsequently, they transferred ₹77,86,979 to accounts in the names of their staff members: Amandeep Manjit Singh, Mudit, Farzana Amir Ali, Abjani, Rahul Kumar, Sachin Gargote, and Saboba Bhimana Adkari. In this way, a total of ₹2,45,61,400 was transferred. Meanwhile, Indira Entertainment received a payment of ₹42,70,82,232, even though the production of the four films was agreed upon for 47 crore rupees.
