New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi i.e. MCD has taken major action against 84 factories operating in Delhi. According to reports, MCD has closed 84 factories for violating the standards and has cut off the power supply of many industrial units across the capital. Giving information about this on Wednesday, a municipal corporation official said that this action has been taken as part of the effort being made across Delhi to curb industrial pollution and regulate illegal operations in ‘non-conforming areas’.

520 industrial units were inspected

MCD inspected 520 industrial units located in ‘non-conforming areas’ in September. These are areas where 70 percent of the plots are used for industrial purposes after permission was granted under ‘zoning’ rules. Out of these 520 industrial units, 84 units were found to be violating the prescribed norms due to which they were closed. There are 27 ‘non-conforming areas’ or non-planned industrial areas in the national capital. The official said that apart from this, power supply of 7 other industrial units has also been cut off.

‘More such actions are being taken’
The municipal corporation official said that more such actions are being taken. It is being told that more such cases are likely to be noticed in the coming days, especially in the Rithala area of north-west Delhi. When asked about the impact of these factories on the level of pollution in the Yamuna river, an MCD official said, ‘All such industries which spread pollution, no matter where they are, are the cause of pollution in Yamuna. MCD is working on a large scale against such industries. It does not matter much whether these industries are around Yamuna or not.’
