PM Modi praised Vinesh
Earlier, PM Modi praised Vinesh Phogat. He said, Vinesh, you are a champion among champions. You are the pride of India and an inspiration to every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the feeling of disappointment that I am experiencing. It has always been your nature to face challenges boldly. Come back stronger. We are all on your side.
What did the opposition say?
On Vinesh being disqualified, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said that there should be a thorough investigation into the technical reasons behind the discussion of Vinesh Phogat not being able to play in the final and it should be ensured what is the truth and what is the real reason behind it.
At the same time, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said that this is an insult to the country and not Vinesh. Vinesh was going to create history in the whole world, it is a grave injustice to disqualify her by showing her 100 grams overweight. The whole country stands with Vinesh. The Government of India should intervene immediately, if the matter is not accepted then boycott the Olympics.
The Indian Olympic Association said that despite the best efforts of the team overnight, Vinesh’s weight increased by a few grams to more than 50 kg this morning. No further comment will be made by the team at this time. The Indian team requests you to respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the current competitions.
