The department has started efforts to curb electricity theft in the district. Now 4G smart meters will be installed at consumers’ places. Due to which bills will have to be paid according to the actual consumption of electricity.
Geo tagging has been done at more than a hundred places in the electricity distribution blocks of the district and the work of installing smart meters in every house will start after the Lok Sabha elections.
To curb electricity theft in the district and increase billing, the Power Corporation has started the process of installing smart meters in every house. The department plans to install 3 lakh 45 thousand 4G smart meters in Banda Electricity Distribution Board for other facilities including preventing electricity theft.
Preparations are being finalized
Power Corporation and Genus Power Solutions Limited Company have started finalizing their preparations for installing smart meters. Geo tagging has been done at more than a hundred places in the electricity distribution blocks of the district.
If the officials of the Electricity Department are to be believed, after installing smart meters, cases of electricity theft will be curbed and consumers will pay bills as per usage. Company’s Assistant Manager Piyush Kumar Singh said that the company’s employees have started the work of geo tagging at various places and the installation of smart meters can be started from the urban electricity distribution section from next month.
On the other hand, Executive Engineer Electricity Urban Distribution Section Prakash Dev Pandey says that after the installation of 4G smart meters, electricity theft will be stopped. Along with this, there will be relief from line loss and theft. There will also be an on-off option in 4G smart meters. Due to which consumers will have to pay the bill according to the actual consumption of electricity.
Smart meters will be recharged like mobile
Executive Engineer Prakash Dev Pandey said that smart meters can be recharged just like mobile. If the money in the meter runs out, the electricity connection will also be disconnected online. This will save electricity workers from going door to door to take meter readings. Along with this, there will also be relief from complaints related to wrong readings and bills.
The bill will be generated by taking the meter reading online from the control room and the full details of the bill will start displaying on the meter itself. It will also be possible to find out from the control room itself that electricity theft is being done on which transformer.
The special thing about smart meters will be that it will also have the option of turning it on and off, so that the consumer can turn off the meter when he goes out of the house. Overall, after the smart meter is installed, the consumer will have to pay the bill only for the amount he uses.
