AIIMS: Doctors are another form of God, doctors of Delhi’s AIIMS made this possible, saved lives by performing the first double kidney transplant in history.

Doctors are another form of God, this was made possible by the doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. Here, the life of a dialysis dependent patient could be saved by doing double kidney transplant. This is the first double kidney transplant case in history. This information was given by the hospital.

Dr. Asuri Krishna, additional professor of surgery department in the hospital, said that the 78-year-old woman has donated her kidney. He told that the woman who had donated the kidney had slipped and fallen down the stairs of her house on December 19. The woman suffered serious head injury after the fall. Seeing the serious condition of the patient, he was admitted to the Trauma Center of AIIMS. During treatment, the doctor declared him brain dead.

The patient who donated was older
Dr. Krishna said that the woman’s family was informed about organ donation. The family had given approval for organ donation. Dr. Krishna told that during this time a challenge arose before him. The patient who donated the kidney was old, so her one kidney was not enough for the dialysis dependent patient. Seeing this problem, it was decided to transplant both the kidneys of the patient. The patient to whom the kidney was transplanted by the doctor is 51 years old.

Two kidneys transplanted one above the other
The organ transplant team of the surgery unit performed this operation on 22 December 2023. The woman who donated was admitted to AIIMS for treatment on 19 December 2023. The doctor said that he is now sharing this achievement with the media. He wanted to see that the patient becomes completely healthy after the operation. The doctor told that both the kidneys have been transplanted one above the other on the right side of the patient.
