New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has clearly threatened that if the Waqf Bill is introduced, it will hold a nationwide agitation against it. AIMIM Delhi President Dr. Shoaib Jamai wrote on social media – If there is an attempt to forcibly impose the Waqf Bill on Muslims, there will be a nationwide agitation and it will start from Delhi. “The movement will start from where it ended last time”. We will use our democratic rights and will not tolerate the attack on the rights given to minorities in the Constitution.
The bill will be presented in the Lok Sabha today
Let us tell you that there will be a discussion in the Lok Sabha today to pass the Waqf Amendment Bill. While the ruling party is trying to get this bill passed, the opposition parties are trying to corner the government over this bill. Opposition parties say that they will try to stop this bill from being passed. Eight hours each have been allotted in both the houses to discuss the proposed law. The four biggest constituents of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Janata Dal-United (JDU), Shiv Sena and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) – have issued whips to their MPs asking them to support the government’s stand.
Government will answer every argument: Rijiju
Union Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters that the government is ready to answer every argument of the opposition. We have come fully prepared. Earlier yesterday, in a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the House chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, a consensus was reached for an eight-hour discussion on the bill, which can be extended further in accordance with the spirit of the House. Initial signs of a sharp tussle between the ruling party and the opposition over the bill appeared in the meeting when members of the opposition alliance ‘India’ walked out of the meeting and accused the government of suppressing their voice. However, the deadlock on this issue does not seem to make much difference as the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has the numbers in its favour in the Lok Sabha.
Bill brought with the aim of controlling religious rights: Owaisi
AIMIM member Asaduddin Owaisi, a vocal opponent of the bill, told reporters that he would explain how it is ‘unconstitutional’ during the discussion on the bill in the House. He alleged that the bill has been brought with the aim of controlling the religious rights of Muslims and the public will teach a lesson to BJP’s allies like TDP and JD(U). The NDA has 293 MPs out of 542 members in the Lok Sabha and the BJP has been successful in getting the support of some independent members on several occasions.
While introducing the bill last year, the government had proposed to send it to a joint committee of both the Houses. After the committee submitted its report, the Union Cabinet approved some changes in the original bill based on its recommendation. In the Business Advisory Committee meeting, the opposition demanded that 12 hours be allotted for discussion on the bill while the government insisted on a lesser time so that other legislative work could be completed.
