The man who was detained as a suspect in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan has had his whole life changed. After getting a clean chit from the police, Akash Kanojia has alleged that a mistake by the Mumbai police ruined his life. He said that he was going to meet his would-be bride. He was detained on the way. When the police released him, his marriage had broken and he had also been fired from his job.
A man detained in Durg, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday said that after the police action his life has been completely disrupted, he has no job and the family is facing disgrace.
Akash was caught on January 18
After receiving information from the Mumbai police, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained Akash Kanojia (31), a driver, from the Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Kolkata Shalimar Gyaneshwari Express at Durg station on January 18. On the morning of January 19, Mumbai Police arrested Bangladeshi national Shariful Islam Shahzad Mohammed Rohilla Amin Fakir alias Vijay Das from neighbouring Thane, following which Durg RPF released Kanojia. On the night of January 15, a man stabbed him multiple times during an attempted robbery at actor Saif Ali Khan’s 12th-floor residence at Satguru Sharan in Bandra area of Mumbai. Khan underwent surgery and was later discharged.
Family members were in tears
Kanojia said, “My family was shocked and in tears when the media started showing my pictures and claimed that I was the prime suspect in the case. One mistake by Mumbai Police ruined my life. They failed to notice that I had a moustache and the man seen in the CCTV footage installed in the actor’s building did not have a moustache.” He claimed, “After the incident, I got a call from the police and they asked me where I was. When I told them that I am at home, the phone was disconnected.
Akash was going to meet his would-be bride
I was on my way to meet my would-be bride when I was detained in Durg and then taken to Raipur. The Mumbai Police team that reached there also beat me up. Kanojia said that after his release, his mother asked him to come home, but since then his life has been in turmoil. He said, “When I called my employer, he asked me not to come to work. He refused to listen to me. After this, my grandmother told me that my would-be bride’s family has refused to take the marriage talks forward after my detention.” Kanojia claimed that his brother died after prolonged treatment, due to which his family had to sell their house in Virar and shift to a chawl in Cuffe Parade.
Plan to stand outside Saif’s house and ask for a job
Kanojia said, “There are two cases registered against me in Cuffe Parade and one in Gurugram. But this does not mean that I should be arrested as a suspect and then left in limbo. I am planning to stand outside Saif Ali Khan’s building and ask for a job because I have lost everything because of what happened to him.” Kanaujia said it was God’s grace that Shariful was caught within hours of his detention at Durg railway station. “Otherwise, who knows, maybe I would have been booked as an accused in the case. Now I want justice,” he said.
