As part of the conspiracy to increase the cost of electricity supplied to rural areas of the state, by converting rural feeders into urban feeders, consumers will get electricity costlier by Rs 2 per unit. Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement issued on Sunday that this decision will affect about 2 crore 85 lakh consumers. In rural areas, domestic consumers have to pay Rs 3.35 per unit for electricity, while in urban areas this price is Rs 5.50 per unit. This is a betrayal of the public.
The truth is that the BJP has no sympathy for the poor and the villagers. It is the well-wisher of the capital houses. Its policies make the rich class richer and the poor poorer. The BJP has made the life of the common man difficult. It has become difficult for people to live in the scorching heat. With the implementation of the Electricity Consumer Act 2020 in the country, every consumer has become entitled to get 24-hour electricity supply. In such a situation, how can the increase in the rates of rural and urban supply be in accordance with the rules? Anyway, under the law, the Chief Minister has the right to announce the conversion of a rural feeder into an urban feeder. Has the Power Corporation taken over the Chief Minister’s authority as well?
It is worth noting that the electricity consumers of villages adjoining the urban boundary will now have to pay electricity bills at urban rates. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Board of Directors has issued an order to this effect. The rural status of the electricity feeders of those rural areas adjoining the urban boundary which the government has decided to upgrade and include in the urban boundary has been cancelled and an order has been issued to declare them urban feeders. Electricity bills will be recovered from all the rural consumers connected to these feeders at urban rates.
This decision will affect lakhs of rural electricity consumers. This decision of the Power Corporation management will include all those areas which have been included in the limits of Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat by the government in recent years. It is also being told that along with these villages, those villages will also come under its purview which are not included in the urban boundary but are adjoining the city and by changing the feeder status, they will be a part of the urban feeder.
