Mumbai: Bangladesh is in the headlines these days due to attacks on Hindus and Islamic fundamentalists are constantly targeting minorities. Hardly a day passes when there are no reports of attacks on Hindus and demolition of temples from there. Muslim Ulemas of India have expressed their anger over the atrocities being committed against Hindus in Bangladesh. All India Sunni Jamiat Ulema, Raza Academy and Jamiat Ulema-e-Ahle Sunnat jointly called an emergency meeting of the Ulemas on the issue of attack on Hindus in Bangladesh at Handi Wali Mosque in Mumbai, in which local Ulemas and Sheikhs participated.
‘We are ready to take to the streets’
Chairing the meeting, Haji Muhammad Saeed Noori, founder and head of Raza Academy, said, ‘Atrocities and atrocities in any country are not only sad but also condemnable. Now that Hindus are being attacked in Bangladesh, which is a Muslim majority country, it is not acceptable under any circumstances. This is not only against Islamic teachings but also a violation of human rights. The Bangladesh government should immediately stop the attacks on the Hindu community in its country and make tight security arrangements to protect their temples. If this does not happen, the Ulema-e-Sunnat of India are ready to take to the streets against Bangladesh.’
Haji Noori warned Bangladesh
The founder of Raza Academy further said, ‘In the unrest that spread during the rule of Sheikh Hasina, Bengali Muslim youth were seen protecting temples. What happened now that minorities are being attacked there?’ He appealed to the head of the interim government, Muhammad Yusuf, to keep a close watch on the rioters and take special measures to protect the minorities. Haji Noori warned that if the Bangladesh government did not take action on this, then there would be strong protests against Bangladesh across India with the cooperation of Raza Academy and other organizations.
‘Bangladesh’s image will be affected’
Shahzada Sher Millat Maulana Izzaz Ahmed Kashmiri, who attended the meeting, said, ‘If the situation arising in Bangladesh is not stopped soon, then it will affect Bangladesh’s image across the world and it will get entangled in many problems. Muhammad Yusuf should immediately stop the attacks on Hindus and take strict action against the organizations involved in this, so that the minority community can feel safe. We stand with the Bangladeshi minorities in every situation. If the attacks do not stop, we will surround the Bangladeshi Embassy in Delhi.’
‘Atrocities are unacceptable in any form’
Maulana Khalilur Rahman Noori said, ‘Atrocities are unacceptable in any form, whether it is in our country, Bangladesh or Palestine. We will always stand against oppression and with the victims. This is a strong message of Islam, by following which we can help the victims.’ Maulana Amanullah Raza appealed to the Indian government to investigate the incidents of attack on Hindus, so that the evil elements of our country cannot take advantage of the situation there. He said, ‘All the Muslims of India stand with the Bangladeshi minorities and will continue to do so.’
