Allahabad High Court has issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Commissioner Prabhu Narayan Singh. Along with this, he has also been ordered to file a reply with an affidavit on the problems related to sugarcane purchase centers by November 29. This order was given on the contempt petition of Rakesh Kumar Singh of Kushinagar and other farmers. The farmers had written a letter to the Sugarcane Commissioner against the mismanagement of sugarcane purchase centers, but no solution was found.
This is troubling the farmers, because due to the arrival of sugarcane in excess of the capacity of the purchase centers, there is a delay in weighing, due to which the sugarcane dries up and the farmers are suffering losses. The court had earlier directed the Sugarcane Commissioner to issue an order in this matter by October 16, 2023, but no action was taken from his side. The farmers filed a petition in the High Court, in which they alleged that due to lack of arrangements in the purchase centers, their sugarcane is rotting and farmers are suffering financial loss while waiting for weighing.
The court ordered the sugarcane commissioner
The court had ordered the sugarcane commissioner in this case to file a representation before the UP government and resolve the matter within a month. Due to non-compliance of this order, the farmers have filed a contempt petition, on which the court has sent a notice to the sugarcane commissioner. The court has made it clear to the sugarcane commissioner that he should either file an affidavit by November 29 or personally appear in the court and respond to this matter.
Sugarcane commissioner summoned
The hearing of this case will now be held on November 29. At present, there has been no response from the sugarcane commissioner in this matter, but the court has summoned him to fix his accountability. Now it remains to be seen what steps the sugarcane commissioner takes in this matter and whether the farmers get a solution to the problems of the procurement centers.
