There was a shooting at a school in Minneapolis, USA on Wednesday morning. A gunman opened fire and killed two children. Also, 17 people have been injured. According to the police, the gunman committed suicide by shooting himself after firing in the school. According to the information, the 2 innocent children who died are 8 and 10 years old.
The attack took place at the Annunciation Church, where there is also a grammar school. According to a hospital official, 14 children are also included among the 17 injured, 7 of whom are in critical condition.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said that the gunman, who was around 20 years old, was carrying a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol. Also, the police said that the suspect has no major criminal history. Addressing a press conference, the police chief said that the shooter reached the school outside the building during the mass and started firing with a rifle through the windows of the church. He said, the bullet was fired at the children who were sitting in the prayer meeting. The suspect fired bullets at the children and devotees sitting inside the building.
President Trump expressed grief
US President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that he has been informed about the “tragic shooting” and the White House is monitoring the situation. Trump wrote, the White House will keep an eye on this horrific situation. Please join me in praying for all those involved! Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was also present at the press conference along with the police chief. The mayor said on this occasion, children should play in the playground. They should have the freedom to go to school or church peacefully without fear or risk of violence.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also wrote on social media that he has been informed about the shooting incident and he is praying for our children and teachers whose first week of school has been affected by this horrific incident of violence.
