Former US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he is ready to go to jail rather than ‘beg’ in front of anyone after being convicted in the hush money case. He said that his best revenge would be by winning the presidential election later this year.
Donald Trump has said that he is ready to go to jail after being convicted in all 34 cases of fraud by a New York court. Speaking to the media after his conviction, he said that he has no objection to going to jail after the sentence.
No problem in going to jail
The former president said that I have no problem going to jail. One day I saw one of my lawyers on television saying, ‘Oh no, you don’t want to do this with the President. So I said, don’t do it. You can’t beg for anything. It’s just the way it is.
Winning the presidential election
Trump said in the interview that my revenge will be completed by winning the presidential election. The current Republican White House candidate further warned that his imprisonment would be hard for the public to bear, saying it was a breaking point.
Guilty on multiple counts
On May 31, in a landmark verdict, a panel of 12 Manhattan jurors unanimously convicted Donald Trump of manipulating business records to conceal secret payments of USD 130,000 to star Stormy Daniels to influence the 2016 presidential election.
Sentencing on July 11
During the six-week trial, the court heard from 22 witnesses, including Daniels. Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention, where he will be formally nominated as the party’s presidential candidate against incumbent Joe Biden in the presidential elections later this year. Trump has termed the court’s decision as a disgrace and alleged that the trial was rigged by a corrupt judge.
