Washington: America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has reached the Supreme Court against the decision of the New York court in the case of giving secret money to the adult star. He has requested the Supreme Court to postpone the sentence to be pronounced on Friday in the case of giving money to the pornstar to keep her quiet. Trump’s lawyers have filed this petition in the country’s top court on Wednesday. Earlier, the New York court had refused to postpone the sentence to be pronounced by Judge Juan M Merchan.

Judge Merchan, who is adamant on giving the verdict in Trump’s case on January 10, had tried and convicted Trump in 34 cases of fake business records in May last year. Merchan has indicated that he will not impose a jail sentence or fine. Prosecutors are likely to file a reply on Thursday morning. Trump’s lawyers have requested an immediate stay on the sentence to be pronounced, saying that this will hinder his preparations to take over as President. Trump’s lawyers, while requesting to dismiss the conviction, have referred to the Supreme Court’s decision in which he has been given broad immunity from criminal prosecution. However, the Supreme Court had given this decision in a different case.

Trump’s lawyers gave this argument

In this case, Trump’s lawyers say that the President is exempt from prosecution and this decision also applies to the case of silencing a pornstar. This case of ‘Hashmani’ is related to Trump’s relationship with pornstar Stormy Daniels. It is alleged that Trump had given money to the pornstar to keep quiet about the relationship. Prosecutors say that an attempt was made to hide the matter of paying an amount of $ 1,30,000 to pornstar Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 presidential election. Daniels had accused Trump of sexual harassment. Trump had rejected the allegations. The newly elected President’s spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement that this case is politically motivated and should be dismissed. His lawyers said Trump has also filed an appeal for a speedy trial before New York’s top court.
